Bob's Your Uncle

Ok I admit it, i'm hooked on So You Think you can Dance. It's not just the bad krumpin' out of the Dirty Dirty. Or the DC Swing Dance (umm.. who knew that was even a dance?). There was something else. Something right in front of me that I didn't even realise. American television is being taken over by the British! It's not just Simon on Idol. or Cat and Nigel on SYTYCD? It's on commercials from laundry detergent to car insurance.

Now don't get me wrong. I'm a huge fan of the British. Some of my best friends are from Angleterre. But why do I need them selling me soap? Do most American's find the accent more authoritative? Would most Americans be able to tell the difference between an accent from Manchester, Liverpool, or the East End? I doubt it.

Why aren't there more French hosts? (Ugh. I can't believe I just said that...) Or Russian? (Dude where am I going with this?)

Are they trying to colonize us again through the power of the telly? Maybe. Did we do it to them first with our invasion of night time dramas and comedy? Possibly. Does this make me a racialist? Probably.

Simononita says, "I like me Brits in flicks, not all over me bloomin' telly, selling total crap. Colin Firth in Pride and Prejudice, Hugh Grant in Love Actually, Jennifer Saunders in Absolutely Fabulous. Now that's the dog's bullocks!
