Matters of the heart

I love Bobby Cannavale just like anybody else, but he ain't no Jeremy Piven.

If you didn't know, Cupid... ahh.... the new version of Cupid aired this week on ABC. I was ready to hate this show (doesn't mean I don't heart you Bobby), I mean full on hate it, but as the seconds and minutes ticked on by, something happened.... I didn't totally hate it. And while whole sections were copied word for word from the previous series, there is a freshness about this 2009 version:

One: It takes place in my favorite city of all time.

Two: I don't know if it's the new HD, but the cinematography is pretty lush.

Three: I love the crazy Mariachi - karoake thing (It would never work in real life).

and
Four: I liked the way Bobby's character said, "the Google Maps"

While I loved the original series and it's faced-paced, wicked, witty banter, there's still room in my heart for the sweetness that Cannavale brings to the screen..

Fine in 09

So lets recap the last few months....

We (The Royal We) elected a president who is half black, half white, part African, part Irish.
God bless America.

Tina Fey was the best Vice Presidential candidate ever.

We were told that the fundamentals of our economy were strong although thoroughly evident that they weren't.
Stock markets crashed.
Investment houses failed.
Bailout loans were sought. Some denied.
Madoff's massive ponzi scheme was discovered. Palm Beach panicked.

So what about the little guy, the average Joe (not Joe the Plumber), or Joe six pack?

If you didn't have any money, you still don't.
Nothing in the stock market? Nothing lost.
Oh sure the price of gas has fallen, but the price of food is still up.
Maybe your bank failed, but your savings account is still earning just as little as it was before.

So what is there to look forward to in 2009?

The President-Elect will become President of these United States of America.

Conan will be on an earlier time slot.
Summer Movies. Star Trek. Scrubs on ABC.

Falling interest rates for first time home-buyers who are a bit more savvy now.

Simonita says,"I'm sure that '08 was one for the record books, but lets take stock of the things we take for granted, because they are the fundamentals not just for a strong economy, but for life. Good health, a loving family, a steady job.

So here's to you and yours in '09. May it be just fine.

Footie Guy

One week ago I had a serious conversation with a friend... about footie pajamas. No seriously. What can you say about the footie? Yes they are warm, they come in that great jersey material, and you can build up static electricity. But on the other hand, at two o'clock in the morning you're sweating like a stuck pig and you usually can't work your way out of them, and you're lucky if you've got one with a flap.

So imagine my surprise when I turned on the television tonight and caught an episode of the Family Guy where Peter goes to a bargain store and sees a pair of red footie pajamas with a butt flap and can't resist buying them.. Who knew one of my most favorite things was featured in an episode of one of my favorite TV shows?

Simonita Says, "Now I don't feel so weird about loving the pair of footie pj's my mom got for me one Christmas....when i was in college."

Leaving Las Vegas

Ok... So this is odd.. I just watched Leaving Las Vegas. You know, the Nicolas Cage and Elisabeth Shue movie. The one where he was starting to go bald and hadn't had his teeth capped yet. The one which was supposed to be Elisabeths Shue's breakout role? ( She'll always be Ali from the Karate Kid to me)....But I digress.

Emily Proctor plays an actress who has never handled guns before; and now she plays Calleigh Duquesne on CSI: Miami who happens to be a gun expert!

And the oddness really gets going when you see Mariska Hargitay who plays a hooker; and now she plays a detective on Law and Order: SVU

Simonita says, "I wonder who else from that film will show up on a TV crime drama?
